Creating Vibrant and Diverse Communities

Live well, learn and thrive

Building a sense of community has been at the heart of Camphill Village Trust for 70 years and this remains central to how we work today.

We’re dedicated to creating vibrant and diverse communities where people can live well, learn, and thrive. Our aim is to build spaces that offer more than just housing—places where everyone feels welcome, supported, and able to take part in meaningful activities.

Transforming our communities

We’re investing in our key communities to make them even better. In Botton Village (North Yorkshire), we’ll be redeveloping the cafĂ©, rebuilding our enterprise hub, and improving facilities to create a lively place to live, work, and visit. At Grange Village (Gloucestershire), we’re carrying out major upgrades and building a new facility in the heart of the village. Over at Larchfield (near Middlesbrough), we’re planning significant improvements between 2025 and 2026 to enhance the community and its services.

Expanding enterprise and work opportunities

We’ll continue to develop our enterprise programmes—from retail to hospitality and training—giving people the chance to learn new skills, volunteer, and find pathways to employment. These opportunities help people gain confidence and become more independent, while contributing to their communities.

Commercial ventures to support our mission

In 2025, we’ll launch a Commercial Strategy that will outline how we’ll grow our enterprise activities. This includes using some of our properties for holidays, respite, and short let stays, helping us support our mission financially while keeping our communities accessible and welcoming to all.

Supporting social and cultural activities

We’re committed to offering cultural and social activities that enhance our communities, from arts and crafts to social events. These initiatives bring people together and provide opportunities for personal growth, all while complementing our social care work.

By investing in these communities, we’re creating spaces where people can truly live, learn, and thrive—with opportunities to grow, connect, and contribute.

Our community model

We believe communities are about people, relationships and networks as well as place, and in such challenging times, we recognise the importance of seeing our resources increasingly as community resources.

With today’s “epidemic of loneliness” for many older people and those who need support, having a sense of, and being part of, a community is an essential foundation to having a good life.

Our strategy focuses on supporting, promoting and building a sense of community – by reaching out and promoting the benefits of our Trust’s resources, experience and skills to wider society. Through partnerships, building new relationships, sharing resources and encouraging our communities to become fully integrated we can help enable the people we support to become active citizens.

We want our resources – our people, our land and experiences – to have real social impact and build sustainable community assets and relationships.
