Location
St Albans Community is located in a bustling and vibrant city close to London. It is an urban community with accommodation scattered around the city. The community has grown steadily over the last few years, this will continue into the future also.Â
It offers the people we support the opportunity to be part of a wider community that offers many leisure activities, it’s rich in history too with Roman remains and medieval architecture.Â
We support adults with various learning disabilities, mental health problems and autism. The higher hours of support are for people whose behaviours challenge and may present a risk to themselves or others. Most people we support in St Albans do not need 24 hrs support.Â
We currently support almost 40 people within a supported living environment, our accommodation ranges from single-person flats to larger shared houses.Â
The people we support live across 20 properties, these properties are a mix of shared houses and flats. We own some of these properties, others are leased and in some we have no housing responsibility.Â

We offer nature-based activities from our Green Care Programme around three sites: an Art studio which we own, allotments, and a café which we lease. The café, Café on the Corner, is well known in the wider community and is our main public facing service. Our day opportunities are available to the people we support and to the local community.Â
Find out more here. If you’re interested in attending one of our day opportunities or activities, please contact us. Â
We have 52 people currently accessing the activities: 20 day placements and 32 people who also live in the community. Â
The activities we provide include: Â
The Studio workshop is a vital part of the St Albans community. Since opening its doors over a decade ago we’ve worked with many different techniques such as jewellery making, weaving, animation, ceramics and different ways of designing and printing.Â
Working in the studio also offers a great opportunity to form strong friendships, where ideas can be brought and shared together. Thanks to donations from our generous supporters, we’ve recently refurbished the St Albans Art Studio, let us show you around!Â
We support people to access a wide variety of activities within the local community from Judo classes and Zumba to swimming, football and chess clubs.
Many of our community activities take place in the community hall, Michaelmas Hall. These include:
We work in partnership with other local organisations to maximise the opportunities we can offer people to lead a life of opportunity.Â
We also have a thriving Café in St Albans where the people we support develop skills and experience in all aspects of hospitality. Visit Café on the Corner, for fabulous food, served in vibrant surroundings.
Our Café is a hive of activity offering the people we support in the community and those in the wider community the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in a catering environment, the public love it too. Do call in to visit!

Being able to travel alone gives people choice, control, freedom and independence over their lives – it also helps to build confidence if you know what to expect when venturing out.
There are lots of training documents dealing with travel safety but the coproduction team at our St Albans community felt that they could go one step further. With a little help from staff, members of the team including the stars, Alex, Lou, Ruth and Ed, produced an Independent travel training film, which walks the viewer through different modes of transport and provides clear advice in real-life settings.
