Christmas at Taurus Crafts

During the Christmas Season at Taurus Crafts, customers love to buy gifts or pick up their Christmas trees and it would be Christmas without grabbing a mince pie and hot chocolate at their cafe.

With all of this in mind, this means that extra staff are needed to help out during busy times. This year Taurus Crafts has taken on several people they support in paid employment to work in the cafe as well as helping to sell Christmas trees, or giving visitors the best festive experience with their children’s activities.

A warm welcome has been extended to Cathy and Esther by the Taurus team. Starting out as a pottery worker, Cathy now works in the café and helps sell Christmas trees. In the Christmas markets, Ester, who is part of Severnside Skills’ cookery classes, will raise some funds for the Trust through our free fete games.

“I really enjoyed working with the children on the fair games and helping Amanda with her festive pizza making. I enjoy interacting with people and because of help from Taurus Crafts, I’ve become a lot better at it than I used to be.”

Creating employment pathways for everyone is Taurus Crafts’ goal and we make sure it is accessible to everyone, no matter how they want to access employment. In order to accomplish this, they plan to launch a program called Severnside Skills, which will provide vocational pathways for adults with learning disabilities to access the world of work

“We are committed to furthering the routes for people to move into volunteering or employment, giving people the skills and confidence to take the next step. We recognise. we recognise that only around 6% of adults with learning disabilities and autism have any form of paid work, which we aspire to change with the launch of Severnside Skills.”
