Across all our communities, the occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was a chance both to show our respect and appreciation to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her 70 years of dedicated service, and to come together as a community.
Fancy dress featured strongly in the celebrations in Grange Village, Gloucestershire – with royal family masks, soldiers, kings and queens all putting in an appearance. The red, white and blue bunting added to the festive atmosphere.
“I helped to put up the bunting and arrange the chairs,” says Alex. “I got the music ready for everyone to dance to. Everyone enjoyed the dancing but the best bit of the day was eating red, white and blue trifles!’”
Meanwhile in Stourbridge, the Drama Group celebrated by holding a special performance of three pieces they had been working on – St George and the Dragon, William Blake’s Jerusalem and The Jumblies by Edward Lear.
At Delrow Community, furniture was brought outside and a marquee erected to create a royal ‘garden party’ atmosphere. Meanwhile at Larchfield Community, the red, white and blue bunting decorated everything – including the horns of our famous Larchfield Cow!
After nearly two years of lockdowns and social distancing, the Jubilee celebrations held an extra significance – marking what we hope is an end to some dark and difficult days, and bringing everyone back together for a sunshine celebration of the Platinum Jubilee!
