At Camphill Village Trust we believe that women with learning disabilities have the same right as anyone else to a positive and well-supported menopause journey. However, they often face additional barriers, including inaccessible healthcare, a lack of tailored information, and the assumption that menopause affects them differently—or not at all.
Many healthcare professionals overlook their specific needs, leading to misdiagnosis or inadequate support. Every woman, regardless of ability, deserves access to clear, inclusive healthcare, menopause-friendly workplaces, and the right to make informed decisions about their own bodies. Recognising and addressing these challenges is essential to ensuring that women with disabilities experience menopause with dignity, understanding, and the care they deserve.
To mark International Women’s Day, we spoke to Kat Collins, Regional Green Care Manager at the Trust, to find out more about the specific challenges menopause can present for women with learning disabilities.
