Climate action art gets Royal seal of approval

Two members of our Camphill Village Trust Larchfield community had the chance to showcase their work to King Charles III when he visited Middlesbrough last month.

Lucy and Michael were invited by Climate Action Middlesbrough to join them at the event alongside Amy, a member of Camphill Village Trust staff. They both had a chance to meet King Charles to discuss their work.

As part of creative sessions at Larchfield, Lucy designed a beautiful book all about habitats, animals, and environmental issues.

She said. “I enjoyed making the arts and crafts about climate issues. I felt happy to show the King my book I designed about habitats, animals, and related environmental issues. I feel happy now I have a copy of my book and I can show it to my family.”

Lucy also created a sustainable art piece on the day, which will be part of an exhibition with Climate Action Middlesbrough later this year.

There were also two other people at the event from Larchfield, Stephen and Jasmine, who sang for King Charles and Queen Camilla as part of the North East Opera group.

Amy, who attended with them, reflected on the day: “It was great to meet the King today. Lucy, Michael, Jodie, and I were able to shake hands with him. We were invited to attend by Jodie from Climate Action Middlesbrough, who we have been doing some collaborative work with around a number of topics including carbon awareness, saving energy, eco-friendly art, and animal habitats.”

Lucy’s book caught the King’s attention, and he was keen to learn more about her work. “We were able to show him the book Lucy made during Climate Action Middlesbrough art sessions at Larchfield. He was very interested in her book of illustrations about animals, habitats, and environmental issues.”

It was a memorable day celebrating creativity, sustainability, music, and the strong community connections that make a real difference.
