This World Art Day, we’re shining a light on the remarkable creativity of the adults we support.
From vibrant collages to textured figurines and imaginative clay sculptures, every piece of artwork tells a story of expression, connection, and care.
Art and creativity play a central role in our Green Care programme’s approach—a unique part of life at Camphill Village Trust that brings people, nature and purpose together. Through nature-based arts and crafts sessions, adults with learning disabilities are encouraged to reconnect with the world around them, explore their own creativity, and develop confidence in a supportive and nurturing environment.
At our art studio in St Albans, creativity blossoms. Each artwork is completely handmade and deeply personal—shaped by the artist’s interests, memories and inspiration from the natural world.
To celebrate our Hertfordshire community’s (both Delrow and St Albans) creativity, we are holding a special art auction on the 24th of April, from 7pm, in St Albans! The auction features handmade items created by the adults we support, with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health problems, at our art studio.
Here are just a few of the wonderful pieces that will feature in our St Albans art auction on Thursday 24 April from 7pm:
‘Sunrise in the wood’ by Melanie
“My collage is inspired by a scene from Verulamium Lakes in St Albans. It’s my favourite place on Earth that I visit often with my husband.”
This serene piece captures the soft morning light filtering through trees and bushes—an uplifting glimpse into one of Melanie’s cherished spots in nature.
‘Tiger’s Tea’ by Harry
“This stripy model was inspired by my tiger figure I’ve had nearly my entire life and my mum’s love of tigers.”
Harry’s love for animals shines through in this charming clay sculpture, full of character and sentiment.
‘A Flock of Giraffes’ by Olivia
A joyful celebration of movement and imagination—Olivia’s artwork brings together a playful group of giraffes in a wonderfully unique style. “I started to create one giraffe as I like African animals and wanted to give it a go.” Olivia made few of them to perfect her technic and thought they look good as a trio; a flock of giraffes!
Each creation featured in the auction is one of a kind—and every bid helps to support the artists and their community. All funds raised will go towards our annual community festival(Festover) held at Delrow, our Hertfordshire-based community, helping us bring people together for a celebration of inclusion, creativity and shared joy.
Come along to the Camphill Village Trust auction; pre-book your ticket with Cate.pennington@cvt.org.uk and find out more information about the event.
So this World Art Day, why not join us in celebrating the incredible achievements of our artists? Whether you take part in the auction or simply share in the joy of their work, you’ll be supporting a creative journey rooted in care, nature, and community.
Let’s fill the world with colour, compassion and creativity—one artwork at a time.
