Creating Warm and Welcoming Homes

Our Winter Appeal stories: Your support changes lives

At Camphill Village Trust, we believe that everyone deserves a place to call home, a space where they feel safe, valued, and supported to live their best lives. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, we continue to create opportunities and nurturing environments for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health problems. Today, we’re sharing the stories of some remarkable individuals who have found their place with us, demonstrating how your contributions directly transform lives.

Glynn:

Glynn has been part of the Delrow community for over 30 years, living in shared housing that accommodates his needs, including accessibility for his wheelchair. Glynn’s home is thoughtfully designed, ensuring he can move around with ease and enjoy the comforts that make it truly his own, like a hot mug of chocolate and his favourite lounge chair positioned just right.

When he’s not at home, Glynn enjoys visiting the British Museum to see the dinosaur skeletons or participating in woodwork workshops.

“I go and talk to people and do what I want to do.  I like living in your own space, it’s nice and relaxing.” he says.

Providing Glynn with a home where he feels supported and secure wouldn’t be possible without the right accommodation. Your support helps us maintain and improve homes like Glynn’s so we can continue to meet the needs of everyone in our communities.

Eddie:

Eddie lives in one of the shared accommodation buildings at Delrow community, where he’s been part of the community for over 12 years. The spacious, homely residence offers Eddie the perfect balance of independence and social interaction, with access to day opportunities like woodwork and drama sessions right around the corner.

“I have drama sessions in the mornings and music in the afternoons. This year I’ll be playing Pantomime Dame”. – Eddie

At home, Eddie enjoys cooking his favourite meal, Spaghetti Bolognese, and practising his lines for the pantomime in the comfort of his room, where he also listens to his favourite music. Eddie’s active participation in community life extends to co-production, attending monthly residents’ meetings to ensure Delrow remains a place everyone can enjoy.

Eddie knows what’s needed to create more places like Delrow: “You would need a big enough house and enough space in the kitchen to cook. To do all those things like making yourself like dinner and yeah, and like cooking for the people.”

With your support, we can continue to provide safe and inspiring homes for people like Eddie to live, grow, and contribute.

Jeanne and Peter: Building a life together

Jeanne and Peter’s journey is a testament to the importance of creating supportive communities. Today, they live together in one of our homes, enjoying a fulfilling life as a couple. From tending their garden to participating in community activities, they’ve built a life full of meaning and companionship.

For Jeanne and Peter, home is more than just a shared space, it’s the foundation for their independence and happiness.

Wolfe:

Wolfe lives in Little Delrow in our Delrow community, a set of six self-contained flats designed for those seeking independence while still being part of a supportive community. He moved into a ground-floor flat over a year ago, finding the independence he was seeking after his previous care home no longer met his needs.

“I moved from my care home to here because I wanted to be more independent.” Wolfe explains.

While Wolfe enjoys cooking meals like noodles in his own kitchen and decorating his flat with unique, expressive artwork, he also values the support available when needed. Wolfe participates in Green Care programmes, with woodwork being his favourite activity. He takes pride in creating vibrant pieces, from colourful skulls to wooden reindeer.
