Easter at Ashfield

After several years of limited activities due to coronavirus, we thought this year, given the opportunity, we would host an enriched programme of events to commemorate and celebrate Easter at Ashfield Social Care Farm and Gardens in Stourbridge.
Our events started on Palm Sunday on Sunday 10th April. Priests from the Christian Community Church in Stourbridge joined us, who led people from our community and the wider area to make palm crosses and lead a procession around the garden’s perimeter, singing songs and saying verse.
We also had a performance of Eurythmy and enjoyed a bring and shared lunch. The event was attended by around 40 people from the Stourbridge and surrounding areas.
On Thursday 14th of April, we hosted a hot cross bun making evening at the community hub to acknowledge Maundy Thursday to commemorate Jesus’ last supper.
There was a good turnout of people from within our Stourbridge community who took part in hot cross bun making and making scones and olive bread.
Transforming our environment
On Good Friday, we hosted our first family forest day at Ashfield in partnership with Fruits of the Forest Nature School. Work began in the woods at the gardens some months ago in preparation for the event, which has transformed the woodland area. On the day, we were joined by 50 families who took part in a range of activities from egg painting, nature trail, Easter egg hunt, salad sowing and toasting marshmallows on the open fire.
The event was a great success, with everyone who attended commenting that the day was beautiful, engaging and inspiring for both adults and children alike.
