70 years of supporting adults with learning disabilities
We are 70 this year! Incorporated in October 1954, with our first Community at Botton opening in 1955, we want to honour the people of our history, celebrate where we are today and deliver an ambitious and progressive future for those that we support now and in the years ahead.
With your support we can continue creating a life of opportunity for the people we support, and more adults with a learning disability and autism are able to access the benefit of nature through a wide range of opportunities provided by the Trust. Your funds will help those that we support to live their best lives through meaningful work and opportunity.
Honouring the past, providing for our present, leading the future.
How we are celebrating...
Mount Kilimanjaro challenge
To mark our 70th Jubilee, and to raise much needed funds for adults with learning disabilities to lead a life of opportunity, we are embarking on a series of challenges, starting with an epic trek up Mount Kilimanjaro β the roof of Africa.
Our CEO, Sara Thakkar, led the challenge alongside Directors Claire Twaites and Sally Watts, with support from young fundraisers Mia and Alex Lombardi, and Sam and Jack Bennett.
The team of seven took on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro over eight extreme days! They trekked 5-12 hours daily through varied terrains and weather, culminating in a 17-hour final ascent. Their tough training reflects their commitment to raising essential funds for our cause.

"I have a deep respect for the history of our Charity and a passion for our future. I wanted to do something that pushed all normal boundaries and I wanted to raise awareness of the challenges that many people with differing support needs face every day."

Discover our amazing past
To celebrate Camphill Village Trust's 70th anniversary, we're delving into the rich history of our communities and significant impact over the decades. We've commissioned an archive consultant to explore our archives and uncover the stories that have shaped us.
Community art projects
Our 70th anniversary is not just a milestone β it's a celebration of the people who make our communities vibrant and meaningful. Itβs about honouring those who have lived and still live with us, contributed to our activities, and found purpose and joy within our communities.
As part of our celebrations, our communities are coming together to showcase their creativity and specialist skills through two inspiring arts projects that reflect the spirit, diversity, and unity of Camphill Village Trust.
- The anniversary quilt: each of the Camphill Village Trust communities will have eight squares to create something that reflects their community, which will come together as a patchwork quilt, and the northern community will stitch it together.
- Legacy of leaves: our communities will create a tree, representing, their strengths in creativity, and create a tree, each with 70 leaves of artwork from the people we support. These will come together to create a forest representing sustainability and our focus on the land and nature.
